Tollway Feasibility Studies
The Tennessee Tollway Act (2007 Public Chapter No. 597) was signed on June 28, 2007, allowing TDOT to explore tolling as an alternative method to fund new highway and bridge projects in Tennessee.
Under the legislation, TDOT was authorized to study (and present to the General Assembly) candidates for pilot toll projects. If the projects met specific conditions and requirements, the legislation would have allowed one highway toll project and one bridge toll project.
Eight potential tolling candidate projects were identified and studied -- four highway projects and four bridge projects. None of the projects fully met the criteria; therefore, none of the projects were selected for the pilot program.
