Crime Statistics
You have to truly know a problem before you can address it. At TBI, our employees work to help the state's law enforcement agencies understand the crime in their communities, in an effort to make Tennessee a safer place to live.
Tennessee's law enforcement department report information about crime to TBI through a comprehensive system, known as the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System, or TIBRS. The data, once reviewed for accuracy by TBI, is made available to the departments and the public for review. Online, users can view current data and select fields to narrow down the data to specific needs. Click the link below to get started.
Throughout the year, our statistical analysts delve into a set of crime issues to help the public -- and the state's law enforcement officers -- understand what happens in their communities. From hate crime, to crime in schools, to domestic violence, specialized reports produced by TBI help the public and key decision-makers understand the issues in their communities to better improve public safety for all of Tennessee's residents.
