Soldiers and Airmen gathered in the Hall of Flags at the Tennessee National Guard Headquarters on December 13 to celebrate and honor the 382nd Birthday of the National Guard.

On December 13, at 1:00pm, in Nashville’s Joint Force Headquarters, the Tennessee Military Department is celebrating the 382nd Birthday of the National Guard, the country's oldest military organization. To honor the legacy of the men and women who have served and still serve, Tennessee’s Adjutant General will officiate over a cake-cutting ceremony to honor this distinguished organization.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tommy H. Baker, of Huntingdon, was promoted to Major General in a ceremony held at the Tennessee National Guard Headquarters on Friday, November 9, 2018. Baker, the Assistant Adjutant General-Army, Tennessee National Guard, is responsible for the training and supervision of the more than 9,000 Soldiers in the Tennessee Army National Guard.

Imagine you are a National Guard Service Member at home with your family when the phone rings. It’s your unit commander who tells you that you are ordered to state duty for disaster response and have 24 hours to arrive at your unit and deploy to the disaster area. You turn on the television to see what is happening, but your state is not in crisis mode or in a state of emergency. Its blue skies and a beautiful day in your hometown and state. You then realize you’re going to North Carolina, hundreds of miles away where a major hurricane is about to slam into its coastline.

Chatel-Chehery, France – Eighteen members of the Tennessee Army and Air National Guard traveled to France early this week to take part in the 100th Anniversary Celebration of Tennessean Sergeant Alvin C. York’s heroic actions during World War I that merited the award of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee National Guard Blackhawk helicopters joined the search on Saturday for a missing Ohio woman who disappeared while she was hiking in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park on the North Carolina-Tennessee border.

Three Blackhawk helicopters from the Tennessee National Guard’s 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion arrived in North Carolina late yesterday to assist in the relief effort of Hurricane Florence. All three aircraft are equipped to conduct medical evacuation with rescue hoist capability, as well as transport medical patients, and supplies to those in remote areas.

The Tennessee National Guard sent a military police company to South Carolina today to assist residents of that state in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. More than 100 personnel of the 117th Military Police Battalion departed Athens, Tenn. this morning with the necessary equipment and supplies to operate for approximately two weeks.

The Tennessee Army National Guard is headed into three separate overseas deployments within the next year.

Maj. Gen. Jeff Holmes, Tennessee National Guard, has been tapped as the next Deputy Commanding General, First U.S. Army headquartered in Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. He is currently assigned as the Deputy Adjutant General, Tennessee National Guard.
