U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo, Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz, and Poland’s Deputy Minister of Defense Marek Lapinski visited Tennessee National Guard soldiers at the Bemowo Piskie Training Area in Poland on February 13. More than 800 soldiers from the Tennessee National Guard’s 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment are currently deployed in support of NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence based in Orzysz, Poland.

Knoxville, TN - The 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Tennessee Army National Guard, will conduct a change of command ceremony on Sunday, February 3 at the Regimental Headquarters located at 3330 Sutherland Ave. in Knoxville. The physical location of the event is on the West High School football field directly behind the regimental headquarters. Army units conduct change-of-command ceremonies whenever a new commander takes charge.

Three Blackhawk helicopters from the Tennessee National Guard’s 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion arrived in North Carolina late yesterday to assist in the relief effort of Hurricane Florence. All three aircraft are equipped to conduct medical evacuation with rescue hoist capability, as well as transport medical patients, and supplies to those in remote areas.

The Tennessee National Guard sent a military police company to South Carolina today to assist residents of that state in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. More than 100 personnel of the 117th Military Police Battalion departed Athens, Tenn. this morning with the necessary equipment and supplies to operate for approximately two weeks.
