Important Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Information
Certified Operator List - As part of our effort to assist essential drinking water and wastewater utilities and systems in Tennessee during the COVID-19 pandemic, a current listing of all Certified Operators is now available through the Fleming Training Center section of TDEC’s Dataviewer application. The listing of Tennessee Certified Water and Wastewater Operator can be filtered and searched to identify individuals from different areas in order to provide additional operator support should a utility or system experience a workforce shortage due to COVID-19.
Date Changes - Effective 3/17/2020
Due to the growing concerns of COVID-19, the Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Board meeting has been rescheduled to May 14th, 2020. The Operator Certification Examinations will be rescheduled for June 4th and 5th, 2020. Applicants for the May 2020 examination will receive correspondence reflecting these changes by the end of the week.
Please note: Due to uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and limitations on public gathering, the Operator Certification Program is unable to extend the application deadline. All applications received after the March 7th, 2020 deadline will be reviewed for the next examination period.
Several training classes from March 23 - April 24, 2020 will be impacted. The Schedule of Classes & Seminars pages have been updated to reflect the impacted dates. All enrollees of the impacted dates have been emailed.
Fleming Training Center
The Fleming Training Center offers advanced classes in a variety of water and wastewater areas. The center also offers assistance to over 4,000 certified operators with their certification and continuing education requirements. The purpose of water and wastewater treatment operator certification is to protect public health by preventing pollution in all water and wastewater treatment plants, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems, by establishing a program for certification of competency for operators to operate such plants and systems.
