Educational Information System (EIS) Guidance for Districts

What is ESA?

A Tennessee ESA, is an account for eligible students to use funds for specific educational expenses, including tuition and fees, at approved Category I, II, or III non-public schools in Tennessee.

§ 49-6-2605 and the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) formula.

What does this mean for your district?

To ensure the ESA students are generating state funds, the LEA must continue to code these ESA students into the Education Information System (EIS) for the entire time that they are participating in the K-12 ESA Program and zoned for attendance in the LEA.

ESA Workflow

Monthly, the department will provide the LEA with their zoned ESA participating students’ basic demographic and enrollment data. Click here for a timeline for the school year.

Student Information System (SIS) and Education Information System (EIS)

Step-by-step directions on how to enter and code the ESA student data in the school’s SIS package that reports to EIS are available here. Each LEA will have a shell school to enroll and code ESA participating students. To ensure you can send data for ESA students, please add the LEA’s EIS shell school number below, to set up your school in your SIS package.
