Tennessee Literacy Success Act (TLSA)
Beginning August 1, 2023, candidates seeking to obtain, renew, or advance a teaching license with at least one qualifying endorsement (listed here and all retired endorsements here) must demonstrate compliance with TLSA requirements when submitting licensure transactions. Educators may elect to demonstrate compliance using one of the below pathways. Both the trainings and the assessment are free to all educators.
TLSA Training and Assessment Options
Foundational Literacy Skills Training: Complete Course 1 of either the Early Reading Training or Secondary Literacy Training.
OR
Assessment: Pass the Tennessee Early Literacy Assessment (TELA).
Uploading TLSA Documentation
After completion of the training or passing the assessment, the educator will be issued a badge which should be connected to their TNCompass account. A new feature in TNCompass allows educators to seamlessly connect their Canvas Backpack from BADGR to the TNCompass system. This feature is designed to provide a streamlined experience for educators to store, verify and present their badges to meet the requirements of the Tennessee Literacy Success Act. Step by step instructions for connecting your BADGR backpack to TNCompass can be found here.
Educators may also choose to upload their training certificate as an attachment on TNCompass from the Licensure Tab.
