Internet Safety

Public Chapter 989 Internet Safety was passed into law in the spring of 2008.  This law, TCA § 49-1-221,  gives directives to directors of public schools for specific steps that they should take in establishing an acceptable use policy for students and employees, reporting that policy to the Tennessee Department of Education, and implementing an Internet Safety Curriculum into their K-12 schools. 

Category 1-3 Non-public Schools

The law also addresses category 1-3 non-public schools as to their respective responsibilities for Internet Safety in their schools:

"In addition to the foregoing requirements regarding public school Internet Use Policies, the principal or other chief administrator of all category 1-3, non-public schools, approved by the Department of Education shall select a technology for such school's computers having Internet access to filter of block Internet access through such computers to child pornography."
