Description: Happy Hollow is located in Hickman County Tennessee, is approximately 1,800 acres, and consists of upland oak forests with steep ridges and wet valleys.  Several gas lines traverse the property and are mowed on a rotational basis.  Hunters often find these rights of ways productive during deer season.  A leased agricultural field is located on the south side of Highway 50 could offer hunting opportunities in the spring and fall. 

The WMA is open year-round during daylight hours, note hunting seasons.   License fees may apply.

Directions: South of Bucksnort. From I-40 take TN-229 S/TN-50 E in Hurricane Mills.  Latitude: 35.85169, Longitude: -87.67441  Parking areas are along Highway 50, there is no public road access to the back of the property, and all access walk-ink in from the front off Hwy 50.  The safety zone and camping area are between Highway 50, Turney Prison Road, and Happy Hollow Creek.  Huntable land starts north of the curved bridge on Highway 50.

Regulations & Dates

Special Use - ATVs may only be used by hunters to retrieve harvested deer.  Any personal property left unattended for longer than 24 hours, without prior permission, may be impounded and may be disposed of according to state procedures. Treestands must be marked with the hunter’s TWRA identification number.  Camping in designated areas only, tent camping only. No motorized vehicle access to the campground. Fires are permitted only in fire pits.

Small Game, Trapping, and Dog Training - Same as statewide season, except as noted. No hunting the night before or during big game hunts.   Closed to Fall Turkey season.

Deer (Archery)Same as statewide season. except closed the day prior to and during the quota deer gun hunts.  Archers must comply with legal blaze orange/pink requirements during muzzleloader and gun seasons.

Deer (Muzzleloader) - Same as statewide season, except closed the day prior to the first quota deer hunt.

Deer (Young Sportsman) - Same as statewide season.

Deer (Gun) – Nov. 22-24, 2025. Hunter quota 80. Two (2) deer, no more than one (1) antlered (bonus deer).

Deer (Gun) – Dec. 6-8, 2025. Hunter quota 80. Two (2) deer, no more than one (1) antlered (bonus deer).

Deer (Gun) – Dec. 20-22, 2025. Hunter quota 80. Two (2) deer, no more than one (1) antlered (bonus deer).

Spring Turkey – April 11-14, 2026. Hunter Quota 50. One (1) male bearded turkey.

Spring Turkey – May 2-5, 2026. Hunter Quota 50. One (1) male bearded turkey.

Spring Turkey (Young Sportsman) Same as statewide seasons. 

Camping - Open during deer and turkey seasons to any hunters actively hunting the WMA. In designated campground only.
