Wild Game Preserve

Wildlife preserves are controlled areas where certain game species can be released for the purpose of hunting.  The preserve owner must have a TWRA Preserve Permit in accordance with the agency Rules and Regulations Governing Wildlife Preserves.  These permits are issued in conjunction with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture has indicated in their Rules and Regulations.  (Please see Rules and Regulations below)

  • As of July 1, 2009, no new Big Game Preserve Permits can be issued.  However, big game preserves in existence prior to that date may renew their permits.
  • No Wildlife Preserve Permit will be issued unless the application is accompanied by an inspection form filled out by the local wildlife officer indicating the preserve is in compliance.  Please call your TWRA Regional Office to schedule an inspection.

Captive Wildlife Application/Permit Instructions

All captive wildlife permits are sold online through GoOutDoors Tennessee or the TWRA App.  You'll need to download the application and fill it out to upload during this process.  If you are applying for multiple permits, they must be submitted separately. Go to https://gooutdoorstennessee.com/. Go to licensing. Complete the login process. Scroll to Commercial.  Select Captive Wildlife or Falconry.  Put it in your cart as if you are going to check out. At this time, this is a 10-day free permit. Proceed to checkout and answer the questions, upload the application (inspection form if required) and check out.  Once your application is approved, you'll get an email stating that your application is approved and ready for purchase.  Log in to your account and scroll to Commercial. Scroll to the bottom of the page looking for the approved permit. Put the $Fee permit(s) in your cart and check out.  You'll get an email with your permit.
