Now Live: Electronic Hazardous Waste Notifications & Reporting
The Division of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) has launched electronic hazardous waste notification and reporting in accordance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Facilities can now submit hazardous waste notifications electronically through RCRAInfo. Learn more about electronic notification submission on the Electronic Submission of Hazardous Waste Notifications page.
Notification of Regulated Waste Activity
Facilities conducting hazardous waste activities regulated under Tennessee Rule 0400-12-01 are required to notify of their activities, beginning with obtaining a U.S. EPA identification (ID) number. These EPA ID numbers are assigned by the Tennessee Division of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) for certain hazardous waste, used oil and universal waste activities.
Who needs to notify and when?
Facilities that generate more than 100 kg (220 pounds) of hazardous waste or more than 1kg (2.2 pounds) of acutely hazardous waste in any calendar month, you must notify the State of Tennessee. If you treat, store, or dispose of hazardous waste you must also report. If you are unsure if you have generated a hazardous waste, please review EPA’s hazardous waste guidance on defining hazardous waste as well as the DSWM's Hazardous Waste Determination Matrix .
New generators must notify the Division of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) within 90 days of the initial generation of hazardous waste. Notification may be submitted electronically through myRCRAid in RCRAInfo or by mail using the Hazardous Waste Notification Forms.
Existing generators must report any change in facility data within 30 days of that change according to Rule 0400-12-01-.03(2)(d). Reporting changes include but are not limited to: changes in name, owner, contact person, mailing address, generator status, etc.
Facilities can now submit hazardous waste notifications electronically through RCRAInfo. Visit the Electronic Submission of Hazardous Waste Notifications webpage to learn more about submitting notifications electronically.
Generators, Transporters, Transfer Facilities, and Treatment-Storage-Disposal (TSD) Facilities all must file forms to notify the state of their hazardous waste activity.
