DCS Talks

DCS Talks is a podcast production of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. The intention of DCS Talks is to promote dialogue among child welfare professionals, foster parents and the entire community about ways to prevent child abuse and neglect. Each month, DCS talks will provide podcasts about topics pertinent to people who are interested in learning about issues in child welfare such as trauma informed practice, legal issues, juvenile justice therapeutic interventions, Adverse Childhood Experiences, best prevention practices, community involvement and much more.

DCS Talks Episodes

In addition to the DCS Talks series produced by DCS, foster parents can receive training credit by listening to select episodes from the Navigating Adoption podcast from AdoptUsKids and the TBRI® Podcast is produced by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development.

Transcripts of these episodes are also available on the AdoptUsKids website linked above. Parents must complete the elective training form (CS-1000) to receive credit.

How to Give Grace (.5 hr credit)

Featuring adoptive mother and daughter Amber and Kimberly and Debbie Riley, CEO and co-founder of the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E), with host April Dinwoodie.

Hear Amber and Kimberly’s powerful adoption story and listen as an expert discusses the topic of trauma and how families can acknowledge loss, address trauma, and grow together with grace.

Listen to La Tika and Catherine explore the concept of aging out of the foster care system. Hear experts discuss the importance of youth in foster care having their voice heard as they work toward family and permanency.

The Last Firsts (.5 hr credit)

Featuring adoptive parents Chris and Gigi and their daughter Maci, with Kamilah Bunn, CEO of the National Adoption Association, and Bob Herne, National Project Director at AdoptUSKids, with host April Dinwoodie.

Hear Chris, Gigi, and Maci discuss their journey to becoming a family. Experts discuss the rewards of adoption for both youth and adopted families, the current world of adoption, and how to learn more.

 

The TBRI® Podcast is produced by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development and features conversations about Trust-Based Relational Intervention®, an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children.

The series explores the elements of trauma-informed care and chats with experts in the field about implementing TBRI® across different communities of care and practice.

The TBRI® Podcast is currently available on the following platforms: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Radio Public, Breaker, Anchor, and Pocket Casts.

All foster parents will be eligible to receive one hour of training credit for each episode; these episodes also fulfill trauma-informed and therapeutic training credit requirements. Parents must complete the elective training form (CS-1000) to receive credit.
