Latest issue: UpRise Uplifts Lives

Just seven months ago, LaJonda Harris was exhausted and struggling to make ends meet. The single mother of four was working as a hair braider when, while out running errands one day, she was handed a flyer about UpRise Nashville, a free career development program. 

That piece of paper would change the trajectory of her life.

Harris attended UpRise's five-week training camp and then enrolled in the Clinical Medical Assistant track. She now works at Ascension Saint Thomas, a job she loves.

“This opportunity gave me the motivation to do better and want more, not just for my kids but for myself as well,” she said.
