Assistant Wildlife & Forestry Chief Wally Akins Retires from Agency
Wally Akins has retired as Assistant Chief for the Wildlife and Forestry Division, Field Operations. Wally had been serving in the position since the summer of 2020 after two years as the Wildlife Program Manager for TWRA Region III.
In an Agency career that spanned just shy of 30 years, Wally served in various capacities. A native of Monroe County, Wally first started as a wildlife officer in Hancock County and later transferred to Meigs County to be closer to home. He served as the Hiwassee Refuge manager for eight years before taking on the role of private lands and small game biologist in 2006. Before joining TWRA, he worked in Louisiana, West Virginia and as a staff forester in Tennessee. Fork.
“Time has passed quickly and while bittersweet, I look forward to the new chapter in life moving forward,” Wally said. “ I will surely miss the people I have worked with over the years, every one of you is special, and definitely what has made this trip so enjoyable.”
