TWRA Plays Active Role at Southeastern Wildlife Conclave
TWRA staff played a big role in the Southeastern Wildlife Student Conclave hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin student chapter of The Wildlife Society over three days ithis spring.
More than 350 students representing 20 university chapters and 356 students from across the Southeast, from Louisiana to Virginia, participated. TWRA staff assisted on various presentations and conducted field trips, which included visits to the CWD facility. There were 22 concurrent field trips and workshops on one of the days across northwest Tennessee. Several of the workshops and field trips were held at Reelfoot Lake. More than 30 TWRA staffers were among the more than100 professionals who provided assistance helping in various capacities.
Executive Director Jason Maxedon was the guest speaker for the event. Staff also hosted a fish fry which saw more than 2,400 pounds of fish prepared. It marked the first time for the conclave to be held on the UT Martin campus. UT Martin last hosted the Conclave in 2008 at Paris Landing State Park. The site of each Southeastern Wildlife Student Conclave rotates each year. Last year, it was held at Murray State University, and next year, it will be hosted by the University of Florida.
