Firing Ranges

The TWRA offers several firing ranges and hunter education centers throughout the state for public use. In addition, archery ranges and Hunter Education classes are also available at some of the ranges as well, in addition to other services. Be sure to check with each range and center to see what is offered!

    TWRA Hunter Education Center (Bartlett Firing Range)

    The range is closed due to construction.


    Please call before coming.


    We hope to be open by the beginning of December.  


    Located at 3200 Brother Blvd. Contact Sam Murrey at (901) 213-3124. 

    Indoor 25-yard range open to the public. No shotguns or center-fire rifles.
    No ammunition for sale.

    All guns must be in a case before entering the facility. No holstered weapons, regardless of concealed weapon permit.

    Directions: From I-40, take the Appling Road Exit. Proceed north on Appling Road and cross over Stage Road. Approximately 800 yards on the right side you will see a service road. There is a green Hunter Education sign on the light pole. The service road is right after the green sign.

  • Cheatham WMA Firing Range and Archery Range

    Open 12:00 noon until dark every day.  Must purchase the range permit from a TWRA license agent. No permits available at the range. Use or possession of alcoholic beverages prohibited. Contact Eric Tummins (615) 792-4510.

    Yanahli WMA Firing Range

    1st weekend in October to last weekend in December
    Saturdays 10:00 AM - Sunset

  • Catoosa WMA

    Peavine Checking Station and Genesis Checking Station. Open Apr. 1 - Jan. 31, except during turkey hunts. Contact Jim Lane (931) 456-2479.

    Prentice Cooper WMA

    The Prentice Cooper WMA firing range is open again and following its normal schedule. Please read the posted range rules and procedures when you arrive at the range as many rules and procedures have changed following the recent improvement project.

    Rifles and handguns only. No shotguns. Open Thursday, Friday, & Saturday, daylight hours only. Closed during big game hunts. Contact Clint Smith at (423) 658-9201 for more information.

  • John Sevier Hunter Education Center

    Located near the Halls community, the Center is easily accessible from I-75 via the Callahan Dr. exit or from north Broadway.

    Days & Hours of Operation

    Open Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday 1:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM.
    Last ticket sold at 5 PM April thru October and 4:30 PM November thru February.

    All shooting stops by 6 PM except Tuesday night skeet or trap.
    Tickets for Tuesday night are sold from 6:30 - 7:00 PM only and shooting stops by 10:00 PM.

    Chuck Swan WMA Firing Range

    Closed Monday-Wednesday and during scheduled big game hunts.

    North Cumberland WMA Firing Range

    Shooting range is currently under repair and renovation.  Range hours will be as follows until all work is completed.

  • The range fees have been restructured as follows:

    Tier 1 ranges include: Cheatham WMA, Catoosa WMA, Prentice Cooper WMA, North Cumberland WMA, Chuck Swan WMA, and Yanahli WMA. 

  • *Fees are not required for Tier 1 ranges, provided the shooter can show proof of a Tennessee hunting license.  This exception applies only to Tier 1 ranges.
