“The state grant money has been such a blessing for us in such a tough season. We were told by the US Forest Service that we couldn't operate our whitewater rafting business on the Nolichucky River this year because of CSX Railroad construction. This was a huge disappointment for me and the rest of our team as we were gearing up for our second season operating Wahoo's Nolichucky Rafting. Thanks to the support we have received from this grant, I've been able to work on the Nolichucky River, spending days cleaning, caring for and restoring a place that means so much to our community. What could have been a major setback has instead become an opportunity to keep moving forward with purpose. We're putting in the work now to make sure the river is in great shape and ready for visitors when the time comes. Without this funding, I wouldn't have had the chance to keep making progress toward healing the river not only for our business but for our community and everyone who loves the Nolichucky River.”
