Amteck LLC

“The Tennessee American Job Center in Northwest Tennessee is the best support Amteck has out of all the states we operate in.”
- Jon Dougherty, Education Director, Amteck LLC
Founded in Lexington, Kentucky in 1977, Amteck LLC has grown into a leading turnkey electrical contractor with operations spanning across the nation. In 1999, the company expanded into Dyersburg, Tennessee, where it continues to play a vital role in the region’s workforce and economic development.
With a team of more than 1,400 employees nationwide, Amteck’s success depends on a steady pipeline of skilled electricians ready to meet the demands of an evolving construction industry. Like many employers in the skilled trades, Amteck faces the challenge of an aging workforce and a growing skills gap- making talent development a top priority.
That’s where the partnership with the Northwest Tennessee Workforce Board and the American Job Center (AJC) has made all the difference. Since connecting with the AJC in 2015, Amteck has leveraged the partnership to recruit, train, and retain top talent through innovative workforce programs.
The relationship began when the local Workforce Board learned about Amteck’s apprenticeship program and saw an opportunity to collaborate. Together, they launched REAP (Registered Electrical Apprenticeship Preparation), a hands-on training initiative designed to prepare new workers for success in the electrical trade.
The program has not only helped Amteck meet its workforce needs—it has also significantly reduced turnover and created lasting career opportunities for Tennesseans interested in skilled trades.
Through ongoing collaboration, outreach to local schools, and a shared commitment to workforce development, Amteck and the American Job Center continue to power the future of Tennessee’s electrical industry - one apprentice at a time.
