Through the Families First program (Tennessee's TANF initiative), TDHS collaborates with employers to provide subsidized employment opportunities for low-income families, along with supportive services.
Employers benefit from DHS subsidies to offset wages during training periods, and supportive services for employees, like childcare.
Eligibility
Employers must provide real work opportunities to TANF recipients, aligned with participants' career goals.
Work with DHS/providers on wage subsidies and employee support.
Provide supervision and a pathway to long-term employment, if possible.
Workplace accommodations, training for employees with disabilities.
Description
Assists individuals with disabilities in preparing for, obtaining, and maintaining employment.
Supports employers in hiring, accommodating employees with disabilities.
Benefits include access to a diverse talent pool, assistance with job accommodations and training, support in creating inclusive workplaces.
Eligibility
Must be open to hiring individuals with disabilities.
Willingness to collaborate with VR counselors on job accommodations or training supports.
Can participate in work-based learning or internship placements as a pathway to full employment.
Funding and technical assistance for employer-sponsored childcare.
Description
In partnership with childcare providers, employers can work with TDHS' Child Care Services Unit to receive funding and technical assistance to create employer-sponsored childcare services.
Financial assistance is available to help eligible employees in need of high-quality and affordable childcare.
Eligibility
Must partner with a nonprofit or for-profit childcare organization to design and implement strategies that create childare access and capacity to service the employer's workforce.
Employer commits to paying costs associated with a designated number of new slots with the expectation that those slots will be available to the employer's workforce.
