TEMA Communications and our Local Government Partners will be conducting aCommunications Unit Technician (COMT) course September 15-19,2025. The course willbe taught at TEMA Communications located at 3041 Sidco Dr. Building 104 Nashville,TN. Classes will start at 9:00 AM the first day and 8:00 AM the other days. Classes willend about 4:30 PM. The class size will be no more than 30 students. There will be abreak for lunch (not provided) each day. Registration will end COB on September 2,2025, or when the class registration meets the maximum number of students.
All travel, lodging and meal expenses are the responsibility of each student.
This class provides intrOductory and refresher training for the NIMS ICS COMT position.It introduces public safety professionals and support staff to various communicationsconcepts and technologies including interoperable communications solutions, LMRcommunications, satellite, telephone, data, and computer technologies used in incidentresponse and planned events. It is designed for state/territory, tribal, urban, and localemergency response professionals and support personnel in all disciplines who have atechnical communications background.
Participants develop the essential core competencies required for performing the dutiesof the COMT in an all-hazards incident, including responsibilities while operating in alocal, regional, or state-level All-Hazards Incident Management Team.
The course is instructor-led and supports learning through discussion, lecture, andhands-on exercises to explain processes used for establishment and operation of thetechnical communications resources for an incident or planned event. The courseprovides a realistic, hands-on approach to mastering the tasks and skills of a COMT.Each attendee receives a Position Task Book.Students should have the following:
A public safety background with experience in field operationso
A technical communications backgroundo
Awareness of fundamental public safety communications technologyo
Basic knowledge of applicable communications plans
