• Shutdown Creates New Deadline For Those Who Depend On SNAP

    The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) is taking steps today to alert SNAP recipients of a very important deadline imposed by the USDA. Individuals who are renewing their benefits or filing a 6 month Simplified Report form need to have any required paperwork in by the end of business Monday, January 14. Meeting this deadline is an important step to ensure February benefits are available to those who qualify during the government shutdown.

  • Tennessee Looking for Partners in Food Program Families Depend On

    The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) is working to find more partners next year to serve as sponsors of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The CACFP is a federally funded program that provides meals to children and adults who meet age and income requirements. TDHS administers the program in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to reimburse sponsoring organizations for meals that meet or exceed federal nutrition standards.

  • More Vulnerable Adults Becoming Victims of Financial Crimes

    The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) is issuing a warning about the growing problem of financial exploitation of vulnerable adults. The department’s Adult Protective Services (APS) division received more than 4,000 complaints of financial exploitation in fiscal year 2017-2018. That’s more than the year prior and an increase of 33% from state fiscal year 2015-2016.

  • State Employees Stepping Out To Support Hunger Awareness

  • Summer Food Program Seeking Community Partners For 2018

    The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) is receiving recognition for several years of work to radically change the way it serves thousands of low-income families. A new case study prepared in partnership with the Ascend at the Aspen Institute honors the department for being among the nation’s leaders in crafting and implementing a 2 Generation, or 2Gen, approach. Tennessee’s 2Gen programs aim to work with children and their parents simultaneously and put both on a path towards permanent economic security.
