The Department of Human Services' Human Resources office manages recruitment and placement, insurance, classification/compensation, and leave and attendance. Staff provides interpretation and guidance regarding civil service rules and regulations as they relate to performance evaluation, the disciplinary process, Americans with Disabilities Act, and grievance procedures.

For most entry-level positions in DHS, applicants will be appointed at the beginning rate of pay for that position title. This salary is based on a 37.5 hour work week, which is normally worked 7.5 hours a day for five days per week. For most entry-level positions, if you work in excess of 37.5 hours per week, you are eligible for overtime compensation in the form of leave time or cash. The method of overtime compensation varies based upon the position title you are appointed to.
Nursing positions assigned to the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center at Smyrna,Tennessee are more market driven, and it is not unusual for an employee to be appointed above the beginning rate of pay for that position title.
