Timeline of Potentially Required Permits, Notifications, & Actions

Below is a timeline of permits, notifications, or actions that may be required at your facility. This is not necessarily a complete list. It gives when the most common or generally required applications or notifications should be submitted prior to construction or certain events.

90 days	Air	Air Pollution Control traditional Construction permit (See Permit-by-Rule for additional options)
90 days	Water	Aquatic Resources Alteration Permit (ARAP) if it affects a wetland or stream in some way
30 days	Water	Notice of Intent for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) for Stormwater Construction permit if construction is 1 acre or more in size.
15 days	UST	Pre-Installation Notification for Underground Storage Tanks
7 Days	Air	Submit Notice of Intent for authorization through Permit-by-Rule

Within a number of days following construction	Division	Permit application or Notification required
When construction is complete	Water	Notification of Termination for General ARAP coverage (if an ARAP was needed)
Within 15 days of installation of UST	UST	Notification for Underground Storage Tanks
Within 30 days of startup	Air	Air Pollution Control traditional Operating Permit (See Permit-by-Rule for additional options)
Within 60 days of startup	Air	Notification on Compliance Status to APC and EPA Region IV (GDFs with greater than 10,000 gal./month

These are the basic timelines that will likely be needed for a new facility. Whenever a facility is modified or reconstructed, it may need several permits just as if it were a new facility, as well as potentially having other requirements. In addition to those above, they may also need:

Within 30 days of changing ownership	UST	Notification for Underground Storage Tanks (from the Buyer)
Within 30 days of changing ownership	Air	Letter or email to APC. Can also supply a Notice of Intent for Permit-by-Rule or use Facility Identification (APC 100) depending on permitting option. See also Permit and Notification Information for Existing Facilities
Within 120 days of any new requirements affecting the GDF	Air	Initial Notification to APC and EPA Region IV
If a well is needed	Water	Contractor needs a Well Drillers or Installer License
Within 72 hours of a suspected leak	UST	Notify Environmental Field Office UST contact
