Adapted Physical Education

The department has developed this guide as a means to provide expanded resources for adapted physical education and inclusion in physical education.

TEAM Resources

The information in this section is specific to physical education. For all resource and information on the Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model (TEAM), click here.

Teacher Evaluation

Physical educators are observed and evaluated with the general educator rubric. Guidance documents were developed to apply the TEAM evaluation model with fidelity and provide educators with meaningful feedback for those operating in unique situations, including physical educators.

Student Growth

According to state statute and policy, each district and charter must implement one model of individual growth for non-tested teachers. Scores generated by peer reviewed student growth portfolios represent 35% of participating teachers’ LOE within the state’s TEAM evaluation model in lieu of individual TVAAS scores that teachers in tested courses generate.

The physical education student growth portfolio model was designed through a collaborative partnership of teachers, district leaders, retired teachers, and university employees in 2013 and implemented in 2014.
