Academic Behavioral Specialist (ABS) Certificate Program
The Academic Behavioral Specialist (ABS) program is a partnership with Trevecca Nazarene University to provide training to Tennessee’s teachers to effectively serve students with intellectual and developmental disabilities at no cost to teachers. The ABS program is a certificate program for professional development (PD) hours for licensed Tennessee teachers. It incorporates best strategies and techniques for trauma-informed practices, and in turn, this minimizes the risk of additional children at risk of entering state custody.
Modules:
- Instructional Strategies for Students with Mild to Moderate Disabilities
- Responsive Instruction, Intervention, and Assessment
- Enabling Technology in the Classroom
- Trauma-Informed Practices
- Behavioral Strategies for New Teachers in Inclusive Classrooms
- Working with Special Education Professionals for Excellence
How can the ABS program help teachers and students?
The Academic Behavioral Specialist (ABS) program will highlight topics including properly scaffolding assignments, fostering a co-teaching relationship between classroom teachers and educational assistants (EAs), comprehending Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), inclusive practices, classroom engagement strategies, and social-emotional learning. Providing specialized training to teachers not only benefits students with intellectual and developmental disabilities but all students in Tennessee.
