Lifelong Tennessee
A Multisector Plan on Aging Well
Lifelong Tennessee: A Multisector Plan for Aging Well is a multi-year plan led by the Department of Disability and Aging. This plan aims to ensure that every Tennessean can age with dignity, purpose, and support, through prioritizing common concerns and widespread issues facing residents as they age.
Whether you are an older adult, caregiver, healthcare provider, policymaker, or community leader, this site will serve as your primary resource for tracking progress, exploring the recommended areas, and engaging DDA’s shared vision of an age-inclusive and an age-responsive state.
As the aging population in Tennessee grows, Lifelong Tennessee is dedicated to creating a future where individuals of all ages can thrive. We achieve this through improved health, stronger communities, and policies that promote independence and security.
What is an MPA?
A Multisector Plan for Aging (MPA) is a nationwide model that serves as a strategic planning resource driven by state and community initiatives that aim to improve the coordination and delivery of services for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and both formal and informal caregivers.
The MPA raises public awareness, informs policy decisions, and establishes long-term goals that focus on healthy aging, caregiver support, financial security, and community inclusion. By aligning public and private efforts, an MPA creates a foundation where aging is not only supported but celebrated,
It establishes a long-term framework that addresses statewide priorities and encourages various sectors to consider aging and disability issues in their policymaking processes.
The Vision of Lifelong Tennessee
Tennessee’s Multisector Plan for Aging was first created by DDA’s partner agency, TennCare. Building upon their foundational work, DDA is transitioning to its next phase, titled "Lifelong Tennessee: A Multisector Plan for Aging Well." This 10-year, dynamic roadmap is centered around five recommended areas:
1. Health and Healthcare
2. Caregiving
3. Community Choice
4. Employment, Volunteerism, and Community Engagement
5. Security and Protection
Lifelong Steering Committee
After conducting regional symposiums, statewide surveys, and extensive stakeholder engagement, we are now moving forward with the development of Lifelong Tennessee. In 2025, we will establish a Lifelong Steering Committee and implement outreach strategies to engage community ambassadors. Our aim is to expand access to services, strengthen intergenerational connections, and foster age-inclusive communities.
