Independent Living

IL_TN

At the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services we want to help youth in foster care and young adults who age out of foster care prepare for a successful transition into adulthood. We want to improve opportunities for youth and young adults to build independent living skills, make connections to caring adults, acquire opportunities that generate leadership skills, and in turn, become more confident and productive individuals in society.

The Independent Living division is the department’s main network for providing funding and individualized services for youth and young adults who are transitioning out of foster care.

We also coordinate with local resource centers in Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville to provide valuable resources and services to youth in their own communities.
