Unemployment Records
T.C.A. § 50-7-701 and 20 CFR Part 603, requires that information obtained from claimants and employers be kept confidential with certain exceptions.
The Employment Security Legal Division and the Special Services unit process requests for unemployment records.
The following persons may submit a request:
- Claimant
- Employer
- Government Official
- Government Official Contractor
- Third-party
Employers, Government Officials and their Contractors, and Third-Parties, please call (615) 741-3170 to obtain the proper Release Form. Requests may be faxed or mailed.

Claimants and others requesting letters to verify dates of unemployment, benefit history and check history, please call (615) 442-7009. The request must be made in writing and a signed authorization may be required. Requests and authorizations may be faxed to (615) 253-4649 or mailed to the following address:

Delivery of Documents
This Department does not offer the option to deliver records in person. The methods of delivery are mail, fax and email. Documents mailed or faxed require a pre-payment with charges assessed by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, in accordance with the Schedule of Reasonable Charges from the Office of Open Records Counsel.
