The responsibilities of the Bureau of Engineering are to develop, preserve and maintain the state highway system and to provide assistance to local governments in the development of their highway systems. This bureau also provides technical and development support to agency divisions of the department. Specific responsibilities include highway data collection, program development and scheduling, design, right-of-way acquisition, estimates, aerial surveying, construction, maintenance, traffic engineering, materials and geological testing.
