The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Division of Land Protection (DLP)- Waste Management Branch (WBM), has tentatively decided to reissue a hazardous waste storage permit to Safety-Kleen Systems, Inc. (SKS). The SKS (EPA ID TND981474125) is located in Davidson County at 215 Whitsett RD, Nashville, TN 38210.
A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, 2026, to provide an additional opportunity for public comments. The public hearing will be held at the Coleman Regional Community Center located at 384 Thompson LN, Nashville, TN 37211, as well as via video teleconference. Information on how to join online is provided below. An information session will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT for the public to inspect and discuss the permit application, draft permit, fact sheet, plans, and other materials with representatives of SKS and DLP. The formal hearing will begin at 7:00 p.m., CDT with a presentation from the DLP on the tentative decision to issue the permit followed by a presentation by SKS describing the activities at the facility. After the presentations, the DLP will receive oral comments on the draft permit from the public that will be recorded. The public may submit written comments at the meeting. Those who wish to join the public hearing virtually will be able to view maps, pictures, and other content that will be shared. Information regarding how to join by computer will be posted to the website at least three (3) days prior to the public hearing.

Comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2026, to assure consideration.
After considering all comments, the DLP will make a final decision to either issue or deny the permit. Notice will be given to the applicant and each person who has submitted written comments or requested notice of the final decision. At the time a final decision is issued, a Response to Comments document addressing all significant input received on the draft permit will be made available to the public. The final decision shall become effective upon signing by the Director of the DLP. The draft renewal permit will allow the facility to continue for ten (10) years.
