The U.S. Department of Energy signed an agreement as part of the Natural Resources Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDAR) process for impacts from its historic operations on the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR). The goal of the NRDAR process is to restore natural resources and replace natural resource services equivalent to what was lost.
Funding for the Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grant (BRAG) is authorized through the Rural Brownfields Investment Act (Pub. Ch. 86, effective July 1, 2023). The law promotes conservation of Tennessee’s agricultural, recreational, and open space lands by encouraging environmentally sound redevelopment of properties blighted by real or perceived contamination.
