TN Partners in Prevention

The Tennessee Department of Children's Services has partnered with Darkness to Light to become a certified Partner in Prevention. Darkness to Light defines a Partner in Prevention as “an organization or business that has committed the time and effort to educate themselves on how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.” Just like you ensure that agencies are certified in CPR and have up to date emergency preparedness plans, it is equally important that these child serving agencies have the training and policies to try and prevent child sexual abuse from occurring.

To become a partner in prevention, agencies must complete the following three steps:

  1. Making prevention a priority by using Stewards of Children®  to train staff and volunteers who interact with youth
  2. Conducting background checks on staff and volunteers who work with youth
  3. Implementing policy that limits opportunities for one adult to be alone with one child
