MEMPHIS – In an effort to assist the offender population in Shelby County and promote successful reentry, the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) held a Career and Resource Fair at the Memphis Day Reporting Center this week.  Employers and representatives from agencies around Memphis were onsite to help individuals, who have criminal records, bridge the gap and find gainful employment.

Brenda Carter, Correctional Counselor 2 and Employment Specialist at the Memphis DRC, said she was excited to have the first job fair held at the DRC since its recent remodel.  “We have a lot more space now that can hold several employers,” said Carter.  “I think it’s important that we hold these job and resources fairs onsite because it gives the participants easier access to employers and a chance to talk about work schedules.”

Carter said the goals of the job fair are to help participants be successful in their rehabilitation and to become self-sufficient.

Offenders who are currently enrolled in the Day Reporting Center program or those on probation or parole were invited to attend.

TDOC would like to thank the following community partners that attended the event. Those partners include Seedco, Supreme Staffing, All-Star Training Academy, Service Master, Sonic, KLAP Inc., and Literacy Mid-South.
