Commissioner Frank Strada
Frank Strada was appointed Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Correction by Governor Bill Lee on January 9, 2023.
Commissioner Strada previously served as the Deputy Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections where he oversaw prison operations, inmate programs, public affairs, facilities management, and financial services. Commissioner Strada began his career as a correctional officer and quickly rose through the ranks to various leadership positions. He has 37 years of corrections management and law enforcement experience, including nearly 30 years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) where he served as Assistant Director of the Correctional Programs Division.
During his tenure with the BOP, Commissioner Strada provided leadership and policy direction to staff at 121 correctional institutions, six regional offices, and over 300 residential reentry centers and served as a key advisor to the bureau’s director. He was recognized by the United States Attorney General with the BOP’s Distinguished Services Medal for exceptional meritorious service.
Commissioner Strada is a veteran of the United States Air Force.
