SAMBURG – The rain has caused many areas to flood in West Tennessee, especially in Lake and Obion County.  As the waters rise, the town of Samburg reached out to Northwest Correctional Complex (NWCX) on Friday and asked for assistance in filling sandbags to help the residents in the community protect their homes and structures.  The men housed in the Neil Rone Unit at NWCX were happy to help the residents of Samburg and made quick work of filling around 500 sandbags.

Samburg Fire Chief, Ken Hogg, said 20 tons of sand was delivered to the fire station from Union City, however, the community has a hard time finding the manpower to fill the bags.  "The amount of sand we have should make up to around 500 sandbags.  We have a hard time finding people to fill them during the day, we appreciate the guys from the prison coming out to help. With all them here working, we should have the bags filled in no time."

Facility Manager at NWCX, Mack Cooper, arranged to have the men from the Neil Rone Unit come out to the fire station to help with the project.  "The guys were excited to help the town.  Whenever one of our local communities calls and is in need of assistance, especially during a serious weather threat such as flooding, we are always willing to provide the help needed."

The sandbags are free to residents in Samburg and are available for pick up at the Samburg Fire Station.
