State Representative Visits Memphis TDOC Facility

MEMPHIS – Last Friday, the Mark Luttrell Transition Center (MLTC) welcomed State Representative Michael Curcio to the facility where he met with Commissioner Tony Parker and the leadership staff to learn more about the transition center and take a tour.

During the tour, Acting Superintendent of MLTC, Ingrid Cox, presented information about the facility and explained the different programs provided to the residents.  She stated that there have been 59 successful completions to the program since 2016 and there are currently 53 community partners involved with MLTC that provide employment for the residents.

Commissioner Parker added that many of the employers in the area want to work with the residents.  “Our guys are at work every day, they are dependable, they can pass a drug test and they do a good job.”

He went on to say that MLTC is not just a traditional correctional environment and the way it is structured is important to the people that live there, it helps change their perception because they end up having a job and they will be going home.

During the tour Representative Curcio had the opportunity to speak with some of the residents.  When asked, a resident told what he thought of the program.  “This is exactly what I needed. I’m going home, but I’m coming back to Shelby County because I have a good job here.  I wouldn’t have all this and this opportunity if I went back home.”
