Inmates Charged In April's TCIX Disturbance
350 Indictments Issued
ONLY – The Tennessee Department of Correction’s Office of Investigation and Compliance has charged 19 inmates with indictments related to April’s disturbance at Turney Center Industrial Complex.

Those charges include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Especially Aggravated Kidnapping,
- Attempted First Degree Murder, and
- Aggravated Assault.
During the course of April’s disturbance, three officers were seriously assaulted. Two of those officers were removed from the affected unit immediately, while one was held hostage for a period of time. TDOC’s Special Operations Unit responded and regained control of the unit. All three officers have recovered and have returned to work.
During the course of this investigation, the Department of Correction worked closely with other law enforcement agencies including the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Hickman County Sherriff’s Office, and the Hickman County District Attorney’s Office.
“The Tennessee Department of Correction will not tolerate assault against our staff and we will seek prosecution to the fullest extent of the law for any violent act committed within our facilities. The assistance and support that we received from our criminal justice partners and the community has been truly inspiring,” says Commissioner Tony Parker. “But I am most proud of the resilience and strength of character that those officers showed that day and continue to show every day. They are the true heroes.”
