Update On The First At Lois DeBerry Special Needs Facility

NASHVILLE - Last Friday, a boiler caught fire at the Lois DeBerry Special Needs Facility.  The quick response by our Correctional Officers and the Metro Fire Department kept this fire from totally destroying the maintenance building which is located outside the secure perimeter.  At no time during this fire were any inmates in danger.

Our facilities management team has thoroughly inspected the boiler and at this time it remains off line.  This does affect hot water for many parts of the facility.  At this time, our most sensitive inmates are receiving the care they need in the portion of the facility with hot water.  TDOC has activated our water contingency plan to provide showers and meals to the inmates that live at the institution.  Our team is working to have water fully restored to the entire institution as soon as possible.

The Lois DeBerry Facility houses more than 700 offenders in Nashville, TN.
