TBI Citizens' Academy

KNOXVILLE: We're still working on our plans for the Knoxville session of the 2022 Citizens' Academy! Stay tuned!

NASHVILLE: We are excited to announce that we will host the Citizens’ Academy this year in August, every Tuesday evening (the 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd), plus a three-hour Saturday session on August 20th focused on firearms training. (The application window for the 2022 session has now closed.)

The TBI Citizens' Academy was designed to develop a better understanding and awareness in the community of the TBI through a hands-on approach.

The four-week academy is held in March of each year in Knoxville and August of each year in Nashville. This experience offers local citizens a peek at the TBI's work, ranging from its investigations of homicides, crime scenes, and cybercrime, to the Fusion Center with tracking terrorism information and criminal activity related to Tennessee.

Citizens applying for the academy must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for selection.

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must not have a criminal history other than minor traffic violations
  • Must attend 4 Tuesday night, three-hour sessions, plus 1 three-hour session on a Saturday for firearms training. In order to graduate from the academy only one session can be missed, with advance notice
  • Must sign all required documents and waivers

Due to classroom size, the academy in Nashville will be limited to 25 individuals per session. The Knoxville session will be limited to 20 participants.
