Captain Robert Terrell Johnson

Captain Robert T. Johnson is a dedicated law enforcement leader with more than 30 years of service.  He currently serves as a Captain with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, where he leads, manages, and supports the Critical Incident Response Team and Special Operations Unit, which includes Crash and Crime Scene Reconstruction, Special Weapons and Tactics and the Hazardous Device Unit. Throughout his THP career, he has held key leadership positions, including sergeant in Internal Investigations, ensuring professionalism, integrity, and accountability across the department; a road lieutenant in Davidson County; captain of the Special Operations Unit; and Major of both the Field Operations Bureau West and the Administrative Support Bureau.

Captain Johnson has overseen major operational districts, updated departmental SOPs and General Orders, managed high risk missions, overseen NTOA full assessment,  implemented critical equipment acquisitions, and strengthened interagency partnerships at the federal, state, and local levels.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis on Leadership from Middle Tennessee State University. He is a graduate of several prestigious programs, including the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University’s Police Staff and Command, and multiple advanced leadership and investigation schools.
