TBI Case Yields TennCare Fraud Charge for Childhood Speech Therapist

KNOXVILLE – A Russellville woman who works as a speech pathologist has been indicted on a TennCare Fraud charge following an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.

TBI Agents began investigating Charla Jean Lewis Douglas on February 19, 2013. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that Douglas, while an employee of Curlee Communication Consultants of Knoxville, falsified 45 speech therapy TennCare service claims on dates for which school attendance records documented the intended service recipients were absent from school for the entire day.

On November 10th, the Knox County Grand Jury returned an indictment, charging Douglas with one count of TennCare Fraud. Today, the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office arrested the 42-year-old at her home without incident. She will later be booked into the Knox County Jail on $10,000 bond.
