About this event

Join us March 12 as we gather to celebrate the opening of our newest temporary exhibition, "King Iron: The Untold Story of Enslaved Furnace Workers in Tennessee."

Funded by Tennessee Humanities and created by the Tennessee African-American Historical Group, this new travelling exhibit examines the little known story of enslaved iron workers in the Volunteer State. Well researched and curated, "King Iron" seeks to further our understanding of pre-Civil War Tennessee through the lense of industrial slavery and its regional impact.

The exhibition opening will be accompanied by a panel discussion with the Tennessee African-American Historical Group and descendents of enslaved iron workers from within Middle Tennessee.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
