CMP Spotlights
On a quarterly basis, the CMP program utilizes the CMP Spotlights as an effort to recognize the success of CMP projects across Tennessee. Please see below for the steps to apply to have your CMP project highlighted on the CMP website:
- Applications may be submitted on a quarterly basis using the following deadlines:
a. October 31, January 31, April 30, and July 31.
- One application may be completed per CMP project on a quarterly basis. Applications should be submitted by clicking here to submit via Survey Gizmo.
- All applications must include a 5-minute PowerPoint presentation that provides an overview and highlights key information regarding the CMP project.
- CMP Spotlights will be announced by the end of the month following the month of submission.

Project Period: April 15, 2019 – April 14, 2022
Project Summary: Approximately 70% of US nursing home residents with chronic pain are regularly prescribed opioids, yet studies and guidelines on medication use in older adults warn that these drugs may have particularly adverse effects. Opioids and ineffective pain management can contribute to the worsening of residents' quality of life and nursing homes' quality measures, including falls, weight loss, depression, ADLs, pressure ulcers, bladder incontinence, and restraints.
Qsource is working with 48 facilities through a comprehensive program that includes in-person training of SNF staff members on safer opioid use and non-opioid pain management; implementing the use of Comfort Menus to provide alternative pain treatment customized to residents' individual needs; and technical assistance to provide continued support and guidance. This project seeks to improve clinical outcomes associated with SNFs' 13 long-stay quality measures. The success of the project has been evaluated through four outcome measures, including the number of non-opioid pain treatments offered at SNFs and resident satisfaction with pain management. Participating facilities have reported an increase in non-opioid pain treatments from 8.9 to 12.9. These facilities have also reported an improvement in resident satisfaction with pain management as measured by the Pain, Enjoyment, and General Activity scale assessment of 4.7 to 3.9.

Grantee Name: Maury Regional Medical Center/Post-Acute Care Network
Project Period: April 1, 2019 – September 30, 2022
Project Summary: Maury Regional developed a collaborative healthcare team that brings the expertise of specially trained critical care nurses to the bedside of the skilled nursing facilities (SNF) patients. Maury Regional did this through engagement, education, communication and use of telehealth equipment and have improved patient outcomes. This has resulted in a decrease in unnecessary transfers and admissions/readmissions, decreasing the average length of stay (ALOS), improving the continuity of care while promoting staff satisfaction. Through early recognition of a patients’ deterioration, activation of the Virtual Rapid Response Teleconsultation and early goal-directed treatment Maury Regional developed a program that addresses the needs of their patients post discharge from the hospital. These patients are receiving the care they need at the time they need it, resulting in better outcomes.
As of September 2021, Maury Regional completed 44 VRRT encounters. They successfully treated 61% in place, 18% received diagnostics only, 5% received no intervention and 16% required transfer. Those transferred saw a decrease of 2.1 days, from 8.1 to 6, in their average length of stay. To date they have provided education to over a thousand SNF employees, 21 VRRT RN responders with 2 more currently training.

Grantee Name: Western Kentucky University
Project Period: October 1, 2019 – September 30, 2023
Project Summary: Bingocize® is an evidence-based health promotion program to improve the quality of life of Tennessee nursing facility residents. The Bingocize project successfully engages residents in a health promoting activity (exercise) that's also fun and great for socialization. Bingocize can also be used by therapists (PT, OT, Speech) to accomplish clinical goals. Thousands of residents have participated in Bingocize, and continue to participate, in Tennessee and other states. Western Kentucky University partners with universities and colleges to recruit student volunteers, this intergenerational model is unique and impactful for everyone involved in the project. In Tennessee, there are currently 75 nursing homes participating and 1,200 residents participated in the project in the last 90 days, and staff from each nursing home were trained to facilitate Bingocize.
