I/DD Case Consultation Program

Eligibility Requirements 

• Children and youth with an intellectual and/or developmental disability (I/DD) who are involved in the child welfare system
• Cases experiencing complex behavioral, medical, educational, placement, or coordination challenges
• Cases requiring cross-system collaboration or specialized guidance
• Referrals are initiated through DCS or by Juvenile Court Order

Services Provided  

• Disability-specific case consultation and guidance
• Case review and individualized recommendations
• Resource identification and referral options
• Cross-system collaboration support
• Strategies to promote placement stability and positive outcomes

How does the program work?

• DCS staff, courts, or partner agencies identify a case needing specialized I/DD consultation.
• Program staff review case information and collaborate with involved team members.
• Recommendations, resources, and disability-specific guidance are provided to support decision-making.
• Consultation focuses on improving outcomes and maintaining placement stability in the least restrictive environment.
• Support is provided in partnership with DCS, courts, and other involved stakeholders.

How to make a referral

• DCS Case Managers or Guardians ad litem should work with their court to get a court order for Case Consultation. Please email  DDA.Child.Programs@tn.gov for guidance about requesting court orders.
