Electronic Visit Verification (EVV)

In 2016, Congress passed the 21st Century Cures Act, which requires the use of Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) in all Medicaid-funded personal care services.  The current requirement mandates a compliance date no later than January 1, 2020, for all personal care services, and January 1, 2023, for all home health services.

The goal of implementing EVV is to bring more accountability and reduce fraud in Medicaid-funded services.

In order to achieve compliance with the 21st Century Cures Act, DIDD will utilize EVV for all Personal Assistance services and Respite Levels 1-4.  This will involve more than 1700 people in the Statewide, CAC and Self-Determination Waivers.

DIDD is working with two vendors to implement EVV.  Sandata will be responsible for the implementation for everyone except those who self-direct services in the Self-Determination waiver.  Those who self-direct services will use PPL, the current contracted financial supports broker, who has their own EVV mobile application.

For more information on each of these implementations, please refer to the “EVV for Community Providers” and “EVV for Self-Direction” sections.
