Enabling Technology

Technology solution can assist persons supported in its programs to fulfill their life goals, engage with their communities, and increase their self-reliance. Enabling technology includes a varitety of possible supports, such as tele-caregiving, remote sensors and mobile applications.

DIDD is pleased to announce that the first person participating in the department’s Enabling Technology test moved into his new home in spring of 2018. You can watch a video on Carl Lipford's first moments utilizing new technology to support his dreams of employment and living on his own in the community.

Please join us for Tennessee's 2nd Annual Enabling Technology Summit at the Hotel Preston in Nashville, TN on September 12-13, 2018.  This summit will present Enabling Technology from new viewpoints.  A nationally known roster of speakers will offer unique insights into the transformational potential of Enabling Technology as described by a family member and technology advocate who has formed a non-profit expressly for the purpose of advocating for Enabling Technology options for people with disabilities. Other speakers representing the provider point of view will describe the transformation process they led at their organizations, the profound impact it had on people using these Enabling Technology options, and the culture change that ensued within their organizations.

This year’s summit will begin at 1:00 p.m. on September 12, 2018 and conclude at noon on September 13, 2018.  An evening reception will be held on 12th for attendees to interact with several technology vendors and learn more about the potential uses at their agencies.
