• Tennessee's Unemployment Rate for January Increased to 6.7%

    NASHVILLE – Tennessee Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announced today the Tennessee preliminary unemployment rate for January was 6.7 percent, one-tenth of one percentage point higher than the December revised rate of 6.6 percent. The U.S. preliminary rate for January was 5.7 percent, also gaining one-tenth of one percentage point from the prior month.

  • OSHA Updates Crane Operator Certification Requirements

    NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) will enter into rule making to extend the deadline for crane operator certification requirements in the Cranes and Derricks in Construction final rule as published by federal OSHA on Aug. 9, 2010. The three-year extension will move the deadline to Nov. 10, 2017.

  • Paychecks for Patriots helps match military, employers

    The transition from the military to the civilian workforce is a challenge 12-year Army veteran John Freeland said can be "kind of shocking" for multiple reasons. Freeland was among those who attended Paychecks for Patriots, a statewide job fair for veterans at 10 locations with more than 200 employers and 1,000 jobs available. The largest single site was Nashville's LP Field, which had more than 60 employers.
