• New Location Added for Mobile Job Centers in East Tennessee

    SEVIERVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) will have its mobile American Job Center in Cocke County next week to help workers displaced by recent wildfires. Two mobile job centers are currently open and assisting workers in Pigeon Forge.

  • State Assisting Wildfire Victims with Unemployment Claims

    PIGEON FORGE - The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development enacted an emergency action plan Wednesday in Sevier County to assist persons impacted by recent wildfires. The devastation caused by those fires closed dozens of businesses, leaving more than a thousand workers unemployed.

The U.S. preliminary rate for October was 4.9 percent, down one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month.

    NASHVILLE – Tennessee Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announced today the Tennessee preliminary unemployment rate for July was 4.3 percent, up two-tenths of a percentage point from the June revised rate of 4.1 percent. Even with a slight increase this month, the unemployment rate in Tennessee has declined 1.3 percent since July of 2015, which is more than three times as much as the national rate. The U.S. preliminary rate for July was 4.9 percent, unchanged from the previous month.

  • Tennessee OSHA to Adopt Upcoming Changes for Tracking Workplace Injuries and Illnesses

    NASHVILLE – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently changed the Recordkeeping rule (29 CFR 1904) and added additional rules that employers must follow. The new rule, which takes effect January 1, 2017, requires certain employers to electronically submit injury and illness data that they are already required to record on their onsite OSHA Injury and Illness forms. Analysis of this data will enable OSHA to use its enforcement and compliance assistance resources more efficiently.
