CHATTANOOGA - Volkswagen Chattanooga today marked the beginning of series production of the Volkswagen Atlas. This marks the beginning the process of building inventory for market introduction of the Atlas in 2017.

SEVIERVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) will have its mobile American Job Center in Cocke County next week to help workers displaced by recent wildfires. Two mobile job centers are currently open and assisting workers in Pigeon Forge.

PIGEON FORGE - The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development enacted an emergency action plan Wednesday in Sevier County to assist persons impacted by recent wildfires. The devastation caused by those fires closed dozens of businesses, leaving more than a thousand workers unemployed.

NASHVILLE – The Administrator of the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Steve Hawkins, urges employers and workers pay special attention to workplace safety and health after 22 Tennessee workers suffered fatal job-related injuries since January.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announced today the Tennessee preliminary unemployment rate for July was 4.3 percent, up two-tenths of a percentage point from the June revised rate of 4.1 percent. Even with a slight increase this month, the unemployment rate in Tennessee has declined 1.3 percent since July of 2015, which is more than three times as much as the national rate. The U.S. preliminary rate for July was 4.9 percent, unchanged from the previous month.

NASHVILLE – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently changed the Recordkeeping rule (29 CFR 1904) and added additional rules that employers must follow. The new rule, which takes effect January 1, 2017, requires certain employers to electronically submit injury and illness data that they are already required to record on their onsite OSHA Injury and Illness forms. Analysis of this data will enable OSHA to use its enforcement and compliance assistance resources more efficiently.
