Committee on Postsecondary Educational Institutions
The General Assembly created the Committee on Postsecondary Educational Institutions (CPEI) through the enactment of Tennessee Code Annotated § 49-7-207. Pursuant to this statute, the Committee exercises such powers and undertakes such obligations as are delegated to it by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
The Committee regularly schedules four meetings a year. Committee members are permitted to participate in meetings by telephone or WebEx. At each of these meetings, the Committee considers new institutions, new programs, applications for Optional Expedited Authorization, and reauthorizations of existing institutions for recommendation to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. Below is a current list of application deadlines and quarterly meeting dates. The Committee also hears discussions on or addresses other items, such as rulemaking proceedings, on-going litigation, and legislative issues, as applicable.
There are three mandatory meetings that an institutional representative must attend (1) the Completing the Application for Initial Authorization Training, (2) the Committee meeting during which the application is presented, and (3) the Initial Authorization Training following the Committee meeting. The Completing the Application for Initial Authorization Training must be completed prior to submitting the Application for Initial Authorization.
COMPLETING THE APPICATION FOR INITIAL AUTHORIZATION
The Completing the Application for Initial Authorization Training will highlight common mistakes that DPSA staff has identified when reviewing applications. However, the training is designed to be an interactive work session. Therefore, bringing a working copy of the applications will allow DPSA staff the opportunity to address questions the institution has about specific documents before submission. The institutional representative will be provided a Training Attendance Form, which must be submitted with the Application for Initial Authorization. In order to reserve a spot for the training, please email Carolyn Qualls at firstname.lastname@example.org with the name of the prospective institution and the number of attendees. Any application submitted without an attendance form may not be reviewed.
The Committee on Postsecondary Educational Institutions will conduct its Spring quarterly meeting via WebEx on Thursdday, May 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. CST/CDT. The agenda includes consideration of Initial Authorization Applications, New Program Applications, Applications for Optional Expedited Authorization, and Reauthorization Applications. INITIAL AUTHORIZATION TRAINING
The Initial Authorization Training will begin at 11:30 a.m. CST/CDT. New institutions considered during the May 6 meeting will receive a separate invitation to join the training. If you have not received an invitation by May 4, please contact Julie Woodruff at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are a currently authorized institution and wish to attend the training, please send a request for an invitation that includes the name of your institution, the names of the participants, and email addresses to email@example.com.
