NASHVILLE – Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained indictments for a now former major of the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office in connection to an ongoing misconduct investigation.

On August 28th, at the request of Sheriff Sonny Weatherford and 18th District Attorney General Ray Whitley, TBI Special Agents began investigating the discovery of missing narcotic prescription medication from the department’s evidence and property room. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that Major Don Linzy was the individual responsible for the disappearance of the medications. Linzy resigned his position with the department after the allegations surfaced.

Today, the Sumner County Grand Jury returned indictments, charging the 55-year-old with two counts of Official Misconduct, one count of Theft under $500 and five counts of Simple Possession/Casual Exchange of a Controlled Substance. Linzy was booked into the Sumner County Jail, where at the time of this release he was being held on $10,000 bond.
